Emergency Railroad Crossing Repairs Forces Road Closures

A portion of Crystal Lake Avenue will be closed this afternoon.

Crystal Lake Avenue will be closed this afternoon to westbound traffic at Erick Street for emergency railroad crossing repairs. East Street will also be closed at Crystal Lake Avenue while the repairs are underway, according to an alert from the city of Crystal Lake.

The road closures were slated to begin at 11 a.m. with work expected to be done by later this afternoon.

Westbound traffic should use Erick Street to Illinois Route 176 to Main Street as a detour, authorities said.

Crystal Lake Avenue will remain open to eastbound traffic. Authorities anticipate the crossing work, which includes track repair, will be completed later this afternoon.

“This closure is necessary to ensure continued safety along the Union Pacific/Metra Northwest line tracks,” according to the alert sent by the city of Crystal Lake.
