Geneva & The Civil War

The year 2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the outbreak of the American Civil War.  On January 11, as part of its Brown Bag Lunch program series, Geneva History Center will present Geneva & The Civil War.  Archivist Ron Rawson has created a 50-slide PowerPoint lecture that highlights our local history during those turbulent years.

You'll hear stories about Wide-Awakes and Lincoln Girls, militia training at the Old Fairgrounds, the formation of the Geneva Cavalry, a U. S. Navy Commodore from Geneva, and the venerable John Rogers who served as both soldier and sailor--plus much more

This presentation is a part of the Geneva History Center's continuing Brown Bag Lecture Series.  Meet on January 11 at noon in the Community Room at the Geneva History Center, 113 South Third Street, Geneva, in the heart of the historic downtown area.  Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch.  Cookies and beverage are provided.  Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for GHC members and students.  For more information, please contact the History Center at 630-232-4951.
