New Traffic Pattern Expected Mid-Week On East State Street
The pattern will make way for a sanitary sewer installation, part of the "pre-stage phase" of the East State Street reconstruction project.
GENEVA, IL — The Illinois Department of Transportation is expected to establish a new traffic pattern this week ahead of the installation of a new sanitary sewer main down the center of East State Street, city officials said.
The installation is part of the "pre-stage process" of the multi-year reconstruction project of the state highway from Glengarry Drive to the Fox River.
To make way for the sanitary sewer installation, traffic will be reduced to one curbside lane in each direction from Route 25 to near Sandhold Street. Left-turn lanes will be available at the Route 25 intersection.

Preparatory work for the sanitary sewer installation will include survey work and saw cutting the road. Construction is scheduled to begin the week of March 30, with the pre-stage anticipated to be concluded by May, weather permitting, according to a news release.
This week, AT&T will also continue its operations from Kane to Kansas streets. An eastbound lane will need to close and remain overnight during the first half of the week, city officials said.

Following IDOT's traffic control plan, AT&T will adjust traffic daily and restore the IDOT lane closure to its original condition at the end of each day. This utility relocation project is expected to be finished in April.
On Nicor's end, service work has been finalized, and crews are working to cut out an old gas main. The majority of the work will be completed on side streets adjacent to Route 38. Drivers should anticipate temporary daily closures in both directions.
The city expects Nicor to complete its utility relocation in March.
HomeTowne Electric, a state subcontractor, is planning to return for quick punch list items related to the temporary signals. No significant traffic conflicts are expected.
The full East State Street reconstruction project is expected to be completed in late 2027, with punch list items to be finished the following year.
