Police Search for Suspects in Aggravated Battery of Officer

A Batavia police officer was injured early Monday when he responded to a report of a suspicious subject at an apartment complex.

Local police are looking for a suspect accused of beating an officer early Monday in the parking lot of a Batavia apartment complex.

A Batavia Police Department officer was called to Green Meadows Apartment complex, at 1179 Wilson St., at about 3:05 a.m. Monday for a report of a suspicious subject in that area, according to a Batavia Police Department press release.

The officer responded and saw a male subject standing between two vehicles in the parking lot. Police said the male was looking in the vehicles.

When the police officer got out of his car, a second subject who the officer had not noticed before came up from behind him and struck the officer several times, police said.

The suspects then fled the area. The officer was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A $1,500 cash reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and successful prosecution of those involved in the aggravated battery, according to the news release.
