St. Charles Woman Killed in Crash; St. Charles Man Faces DUI Charges

The crash occurred at 2nd Street and Timbers Trail Friday afternoon.

A 65-year-old St. Charles woman was killed Friday afternoon after police said a drunken driver hit her vehicle head on at the intersection of North 2nd Street and Timbers Trail.

Susan Gorecki, of Green Willow Lane in St. Charles, was traveling north on 2nd Street at about 2:05 p.m. when a southbound 2003 Hyundai Sante Fe crossed the center line and struck her 2004 Toyota Corolla, according to a St. Charles Police Department press release.

Gorecki was taken to Delnor Hospital where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

The driver of the Corolla, Joshua Spudich, 23, of 418 2nd St. in St. Charles, now faces several charges after police said he was driving drunk at the time of the crash.

He is charged with four counts of aggravated DUI, and one count of possession of a controlled substance, DUI drugs, driving while license revoked and improper lane usage.

Spudich was taken to Delnor Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Kane County Jail to await a bond hearing.

North 2nd Street was closed to southbound traffic until about 6 p.m. on Friday.
