Trick-or-Treat Hours, Family-Friendly Halloween Events Throughout the Suburbs

Oct. 31

Cook County

  • Palatine Park District Halloween Party: 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Community Center. Get more information on the park district’s website.
  • Arlington Heights trick-or-treat hours: 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Palatine trick-or-treat hours: 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg will host its Mall-o-Ween event from 12 to 2 p.m. in the JC Penney court area. Woodfield Mall is inviting Chicagoland families to take part in this free event which includes Halloween themed games and activities. In addition, families will enjoy mall-wide trick-or-treating at participating stores.

Lake County

  • Buffalo Grove trick-or-treat hours: 2 to 7 p.m.
  • Grayslake trick-or-treat hours: 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Business trick-or-treating in Grayslake will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Grayslake. In conjunction with this event the Village will hold its annual open house where residents can visit the Village Hall, see the famous snowglobe collection, have a balloon animal made by the balloonist, take your pictures with a Public Works truck or sit in a Police Department squad vehicle. Carnival games, candy and more.
  • Libertyville trick-or-treat hours: 4 to 8 p.m.
  • Wheeling trick-or-treat hours: 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Vernon Hills trick-or-treat hours: 4 to 8 p.m.
  • Lake Zurich trick-or-treat hours: 3 to 8 p.m.

McHenry County

Kane County

  • Tree Trunk or Treat event held from 1 to 4 p.m. at Creek Bend Nature Center at LeRoy Oakes, 37W584 West Dean Street in St. Charles. Drop by Creek Bend Nature Center for a FREE Halloween event. District naturalists will help you discover the creepy and cool creatures that lurk in the wild.There will be treats for all by the trunk of the big oak tree, inside the nature center, as well as outdoor activities.
  • St. Charles trick-or-treat hours: 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Batavia trick-or-treat hours: 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Geneva: The Windy City Amusement Carnival will be at 2100 S. Randall Road in Geneva (in front of Gander Mountain) October 30 – November 1. Take advantage of unlimited ride specials from 5-9 pm Friday; 1-5 pm Saturday and Sunday. For only $25/per person/per day ride as many rides as you desire during the unlimited ride times/days. Regular hours of operation are 5-10 pm Friday; 1-10 pm Saturday and 1-5 pm Sunday.

DuPage County

  • Wheaton trick-or-treat hours: 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Downtown trick-or-treating event in Wheaton: The downtown trick-or-treat event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 31. During the downtown event, children can go trick-or-treating from store to store. There will also be a costume contest at 10 a.m. by the Martin Memorial Plaza fountain on Front Street, just west of Main Street, and a pet costume contest will be held at 10:30 a.m.
  • Glen Ellyn trick-or-treat hours: 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Downtown trick-or-treating/kids parade in Glen Ellyn: The Kids Parade will step off at 10 a.m. at Prairie Path Park, south of the train station between Park Boulevard and Forest Avenue. Kids should arrive no later than 9:45 a.m. Registration is not required. Strollers and hand-pulled wagons are allowed but the village asks that you keep your pets at home. Kids in costume can trick-or-treat in the downtown area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult and are welcome in stores and businesses that have a “Trick-or-Treat Here” sign.
  • Morton Arboretum in Lisle: All children under the age of 17 are admitted free on this day. Trick-or-trees event at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Play tricky games, fashion fun fall crafts, and plant a tree seed to take home as your treat. Small pumpkins to paint will also be available for purchase. A Halloween scavenger hunt will take place from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Halloween costumes are encouraged. Morton Arboretum will also host a Boo Breakfast and Theatre-Hikes. Get more information on the Morton Arboretum website.
