Woman Convicted of Abusing Child in Her Care

The 42-year-old Aurora woman was watching the 14-month-old boy while his mom was at work when the abuse occurred, prosecutors said.

A 42-year-old woman faces prison time after a Kane County judge convicted her Monday of abusing a 14-month-old child that was in her care, prosecutors said.

Guadalupe E. Dominguez, 42, of the 1600 block of North East Drive in Aurora, was found guilty of one count of aggravated battery to a child, a Class 2 felony, and battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

Hull heard the trial periodically between May 29 and June 30 after Dominguez waived her right to a jury trial, according to a Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office press release.

Prosecutors said the child was left with Dominguez in October 2013 while his mother was at work. When the mom returned, she found bruising and swelling on the child’s face and body, according to the news release.

An emergency room physician suspected the injuries were consistent with child abuse and contacted DCFS.

The investigation revealed the injuries were the result of child abuse and that Dominguez knowingly inflicted the injuries, prosecutors said.

Dominguez is next expected in court at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 for motions and sentencing. Dominguez faces a sentence of probation or between three and seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

In addition, Dominguez must register in accordance with Illinois’ Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registration Act.

Dominguez remains free on $1,000 bond.
