Adult Business Ordinance Approved In DuPage County
The new ordinance hopes to curb crime at adult businesses, since the county can't ban them.
DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — The DuPage County Board approved an ordinance Tuesday to enforce licensing requirements and restrictions on adult businesses. The ordinance comes after community members throughout the county brought to light concerns about crimes that have taken place at local adult businesses.
The licensing process requires background checks for adult business owners and employees. The ordinance also establishes requirements for the buildings that house adult businesses.
In a statement, DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin said, "Members heard from the community, weighed the relevant issues and delivered a comprehensive licensing ordinance designed to protect our residents, employees and business owners."

A six-person panel of DuPage County Board members had been set up in January to do research on local adult businesses and their practices. In March board members invited adult businesses owners throughout the county to attend a meeting with the panel.
As part of the ordinance, performers, dancers, bouncers, and managers will be required to wear a special ID card while they are working. Adult businesses in DuPage County will also be prohibited from serving alcohol between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.
