GLEN ELLYN, IL — A Glen Ellyn man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2011 death of his ex-wife. Juan M. Granados, 42, was found guilty by a jury of strangling his ex, Nancy Bustos, to death and sexually assaulting her before fleeing the country.

According to authorities, police checked in on Bustos on Oct. 16, 2011, and found her dead in the bathroom of the apartment she shared with Granados and their two children. After an investigation, police were led to Granados and found out the couple had an argument earlier that night.

Granados fled the country to Mexico after Bustos's murder and was extradited to the U.S. in 2017. He has been held without bond in DuPage County Jail since Sept. 17, 2017.

In a statement, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "This afternoon, a jury properly found that Juan Granados is the man responsible for the senseless murder of Nancy Bustos. Their verdict however, will not bring Nancy back to her children, her family and the countless others who loved her. Their loss will be with them forever."

Granados faces 75 years in prison for the murder. He is set to appear in court again on April 17.
