GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL — A Glen Ellyn man faces up to 45 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the 2017 murder of a man in unincorporated Glendale Heights. Authorities say James Aydelotte, 22, fatally hit and cut John Murray, 49, while visiting his home in 2017.

Aydelotte went to Murray's house in the 200 block of Mildred Lane just after 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2017. Police say the men got into a verbal altercation and that Aydelotte hit Murray in the face before cutting his leg.

Police said Aydelotte had also "stomped" on Murray's head and used a "large knife" to slice his leg in what then-sheriff John Zaruba called a "brutal" and "heinous" crime.
