Glen Ellyn Man Pleads Guilty To Hiring Friend To Kill Parents

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A Glen Ellyn man has pleaded guilty to hiring a friend to kill his parents with a hammer. Joshua Miceli, 25, pleaded guilty to first degree murder Tuesday in connection with the Feb. 2018 attack, which injured both of his parents, according to Daily Herald.

According to authorities, Miceli's parents were found at their home in the 1 N 600 block of Park Boulevard with serious injuries after Michael Targo, 18, allegedly attacked them with a hammer. Police later found Targo at a nearby business and brought him and Miceli in for questioning.

It was then that police say Miceli implicated himself, admitting that he had agreed to pay Targo after the murders were successfully completed. He reportedly persuaded Targo to commit the attack by telling him his parents were "mentally abusive."

Targo initially pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated battery and attempted murder in March 2018, but changed his plea to guilty in January 2020.

Miceli was sentenced to 23 years in prison and will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence after getting credit for time served.
