Glen Ellyn Man Gets 50 Years For Murder, Sex Assault Of Ex-Wife
Juan M. Granados, 43, was convicted in Feb. 2020 of the strangling and sexually assaulting his ex-wife, Nancy Bustos, in 2011.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A former Glen Ellyn man who was convicted of sexually assaulting and strangling his ex-wife, Nancy Bustos, more than a decade ago was sentenced to 50 years in prison Monday. Juan M. Granados, 43, was found guilty of first degree murder and criminal sexual assault in Feb. 2020 in connection with Bustos's 2011 murder.
On Monday, DuPage County Judge Brian Telander sentenced Granados to 40 years for the murder charge and 10 years for the criminal sexual assault charge. Granados will serve the sentences consecutively.
Police were called to the apartment Bustos and Granados lived in with their two children on the afternoon of Oct. 16, 2011, to perform a well-being check on Bustos. Officers reported finding Bustos dead in the bathroom.

Authorities say Granados fled to Mexico after the incident and was extradited to the United States in 2017. He has been held without bond in DuPage County Jail since Sept. 17, 2017.
“Ten years ago, Juan Granados brutally sexually assaulted and murdered Nancy Bustos, his former wife and mother of their children,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release.
Berlin added, “After strangling Nancy to death, Mr. Granados fled the country in an attempt to avoid the consequences of his actions. Thanks to the dogged efforts of the Glen Ellyn Police Department however, Mr. Granados was brought back to DuPage County to face justice. While the sentence imposed on Mr. Granados cannot bring Nancy back to her children and those who loved her, it is my sincerest hope that they may find solace in knowing that the man responsible for her death has been held responsible."
Granados must serve 100 percent of the murder sentence and 85 percent of the sexual assault sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
