Tree Lighting, Holiday Walk, Free Movies Planned In Glen Ellyn

Glen Ellyn's seasonal festivities kick off with the 2021 Holiday Walk and Tree Lighting ceremony on Nov. 26.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn will kick off its seasonal festivities Nov. 26 with the 2021 Holiday Walk and Tree Lighting ceremony. The holiday fun will continue throughout December with free, family-friendly movies at the Glen Art Theatre.

Holiday Walk and Tree Lighting

Residents will start to gather around the Christmas tree in downtown Glen Ellyn at 5 p.m. Nov. 26. The Holiday Walk begins at 6 p.m., when Santa Claus starts to make his way to the tree from the fire station at 524 Pennsylvania Ave.

At 6:30 p.m., Glen Ellyn's Tree Lighting will commence to herald the start of the season. After the tree lighting, visitors can check out the holiday decorations and Black Friday deals at the stores downtown or head to the fire station for photos with Santa Claus from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Families can watch free holiday movies at Glen Art Theatre starting Nov. 27. The holiday movie schedule is as follows:

  • Nov. 27: Arthur Christmas
  • Dec. 4: Elf
  • Dec. 11: Polar Express
  • Dec. 18: The Grinch (Dr. Seuss version)

Send Letters to Santa Claus

A special mailbox will be set up at the northeast corner of Crescent Boulevard and Main Street to accept letters addressed to Santa Claus himself. The Letters to Santa mailbox will be available Nov. 24 until Dec. 20. Kids who deposit letters in the mailbox by Dec. 19 will get a response from Santa that includes a signed photograph, so don't forget to include a return address.
