Police Warn Of Scammers Posing As ComEd Representatives
Police say the scammers may call you or come to your home pretending to be from ComEd.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Police have issued a warning for residents to be on "high alert" for scammers who pose as ComEd representatives to steal money or personal information. These "spoofers" may call your cellphone form a number that shows up as ComEd and threaten to disconnect service or come to your home or business, according to Glen Ellyn Police.
According to ComEd, there has been a surge in the number of calls reporting scammers who threatened to cut off electricity if the resident does not make payment. Often, the caller will ask their victim to buy a prepaid card then call another phone number and provide the card number and PIN.
ComEd and local police warn that representatives will never call customers and ask for cash or gift card purchases. If a ComEd rep comes to your home, they must show proper identification. If you have any doubt about a call or visit, call ComEd at 1-800-334-7661 to verify.
