Year in Review: Weird Paint Job on Glen Ellyn Home is Top Story of 2015

GLEN ELLYN, IL - As we say good-bye to 2015, we are looking back at our top ten most-read stories from the year.

1. From Dog Waste to Weird Paint Job, Glen Ellyn Homeowner Irks Neighbors: This is just one of those news stories you do not see every day. These homeowners decided on a gaudy paint job in retaliation to complaints made by neighbors over excessive dog poop in their yard. Needless to say, the move made several in the neighborhood very angry
2. Man Arrested in 30-Year Cold Case Murder of Teen in Unincorporated Glen Ellyn: A shocking development came in this cold case when the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 62-year-old Champaign man for the 1985 murder of Kristina Wesselman, who was 15 years old at the time, in unincorporated Glen Ellyn.
3. 72-Year-Old to Use Lottery Winnings for His Upcoming Wedding: The local man said he would spend the $200,000 on his upcoming nuptials.
4. Retired DuPage Deputy Dies in ‘Freakish’ Airport Accident: The 52-year-old retired deputy grew up in Glen Ellyn. He took a “retirement gig” at Midway Airport and died when two luggage vehicles collided at the airport this past May.
5. Lombard Dermatologist Billed Insurance Companies for Cancer Treatments He Never Performed: FBI: In reality, his patients did not have pre-cancerous lesions, and many were getting “lunchtime laser peels.” The shady dermatologist was sentenced to prison time.
6. Buddy Benches Spring Up Across Suburbs, Help Elementary Students Connect: This story made us smile. The concept is simple: young students who are feeling lonely while at school can sit at the bench, which will signal to other kids to come and interact with them. Maybe this is something we will see more of at schools in 2016.
7. A Hug, a Love Story and a Miracle: Young Lombard Couple Overcoming Tremendous Odds: This heart-warming story is an example of a great article submitted directly to our site from a Patch reader. It was shared over 500 times on Facebook. Definitely worth a read!
8. 1 Dead, 1 Injured During Fight at Party in Unincorporated Glen Ellyn: Police: Here is the initial story that we broke following the fight at a graduation party that left one dead. Our follow-up story, which shares more details from the tragic incident, can be found here.
9. Girl, 4, Recovering After Near-Drowning at Warrenville Fitness Center: This has to be every parents worst nightmare. The 4-year-old girl was found unresponsive at the bottom of the pool at Life Time Fitness in Warrenville in June. Thankfully, she was expected to recover.
10. Glen Ellyn Could Get New Dunkin’ Donuts: Donuts. Coffee. What’s not to love?
