9 Women Batter, Rob Resident At Home: Glenview Police Blotter

DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED/REVOKED LICENSE

Desiree Sanders, 25, is accused of driving on a suspended license, possession of a suspended driver's license, speeding, and was arresteed at 6:15 p.m. Jan. 29, after a traffic stop in the 800 block of Harlem Avenue. She was released and assigned a court date of Feb. 28.

UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

Mitchell Bahena, 32, of the 600 block of Deepwoods Drive, Mundelein, is accused of unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender, and was arrested at 3:29 p.m. Jan. 27, in the 1700 block of Dempster Road. The arrest followed an investigation into an incident on Jan. 27 in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He is being held in custody in Cook County until a Feb. 6 detention hearing.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee for a business in the 1700 block of Glenview Road reported at 4:16 p.m. Feb. 1 — described as a white male, between 30 and 35 years old, with full beard, wearing a black puffy jacket, gray pants, black gym shoes — came to the store and was able to remove a $2,900 gold coin without paying after distracting the employee.
  • An employee for a business in the 1400 block of Waukegan Road called police at 9:11 a.m. Feb. 1, to report finding headphones, a shaver, and clippers which were discarded in the bathroom of the business. The items appeared to be taken from a neighboring business. The other store manager was contacted and confirmed the items were stolen from the store. The items were returned to the store and there were no complaints to be signed. Earlier, officers responded to the area of East Lake Avenue and Harms Road for a check on well-being call where they made contact with someone who matched the description of the retail theft suspect.
  • An employee for a business in the 1500 block of Waukegan Road reported at 1:13 p.m. Jan. 30, finding an empty Dewalt battery box. Surveillance video shows a white male, 40 to 45 years of age, 5-foot 10 to 6-foot, 180 to 190 pounds, clean-shaven, wearing a baseball cap and brown jacket, accompanied by an approximately 4-year-old boy, crouching down with the box in the lumber aisle, then leave the store without paying for any items. He is seen entering a red Toyota Tundra, but the license plate cannot be read. Total loss is $199.

FRAUD

A resident in the 2300 block of Indian Ridge Drive called police at 3:07 p.m. Feb. 1, to report someone used fake checks to withdraw a total of $18,000 from their account. One of the checks was possibly cashed in Florida.

FORGERY

An employee of business in the 2600 block of Chestnut Avenue reported at 2:35 p.m. Jan. 31, a business check for $718.87 which was sent to a vendor was intercepted and cashed by an unknown person.

ASSAULT

An employee of a business in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue called police at 1:20 p.m. Jan. 31, to report someone had attempted to throw a wine bottle at them after a dispute over an additional charge their credit card. There were no complaints to be signed. Peace was restored and they were issued a trespass warning.

TRESPASS WARNING

  • Employees for a business in the 2100 block of Willow Road reported at 9:11 a.m. Jan. 28, a customer staring at employees. Officers advised them that the store would not like them to return and gave them a trespass warning.
  • An employee for a business in the 600 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 5:41 p.m. Jan. 29, a customer was in the food court for several hours. Staff asked them to leave, but they then wandered the aisles of the grocery store. Officers advised them that the store wants them to leave and they gave a trespass warning not to return.

COMPUTER TAMPERING

An employee for a business in the 2000 block of Lehigh Avenue reported at 3:42 p.m. Jan. 28, running a backup check of their systems, where they noticed 20,000 files were being changed. All the computers were down, the network was unavailable, and the printers all had hundreds of pages printed that showed ransomware. The company received an email with a link with a ransom request, which they did not open. Due to lost business, the company has lost approximately $75,000 over two days.

HARASSMENT BY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

A 12th Street resident called police at 12:54 a.m. Jan. 29, to report being blackmailed from someone they met on TikTok. They then started conversing on Whatsapp, where they exchanged nude photographs. The person threatened to expose the photos unless the resident paid $300. They called the resident while officers were on scene and they heard a male on the phone.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Hollywood Avenue resident reported at 12:40 a.m. Jan. 28, receiving a tax form with their information, along with a copy of a driver’s license which had their name, address, and birthdate, but had someone else's photo. They also received check stubs that had been written to them and direct deposited into an account that did not belong to them. The checks were issued by someone who was later identified also as a victim of identity theft. No financial loss.

CIVIL MATTER

A Grayslake resident called police on Jan. 29 to report meeting someone in the 1600 block of Milwaukee Avenue to purchase an Apple watch through Facebook Marketplace two days earlier. They paid $190. After they returned home, they could not pair it with any devices. They took it to the Apple store and they said it was a knock off. Officers were unable to make contact with the seller.

THEFT

  • A resident of the 1000 block of Barton Court reported at 8:56 p.m. Jan. 29, a delivered package stolen from their front porch that contained prescription medications. A female with long black hair, wearing a white shirt and gray pants was seen on Ring camera taking the package and running back to a white vehicle. A crash was reported at Surrey and Glenview roads, where the female passenger, a Chicago resident in a white Toyota Yaris matched the suspect's description and was positively identified. The medication was not located, but proceeds from a Skokie theft were located. They were issued a Village Ordinance citation for theft. Total loss is $20.
  • A resident of the 1400 block of Midway Lane called police at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 30, to report seeing on their home surveillance camera, an unknown male, wearing an Amazon vest, taking two packages off the front porch that had been delivered an hour prior. One package contained a coat and the other contained a powder supplement. Total loss is $380.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE

A Valor Court resident reported at 2:06 p.m. Jan. 30, they were selling furniture online. A person identifying themselves as Linda said she was in southern Illinois, but wanted to buy the furniture for $300. She told them that she needed to hire movers to pick up the furniture, so sent a $2,250 check to them to cover the furniture and to pay the movers. After it was deposited, they sent money through Zelle and Paypal to people they believed were movers. After the money was sent, the bank advised the check had been recalled. They are currently out $1,950.

ROBBERY

A resident of the 900 block of 9th Street reported at 5:18 p.m. Feb. 2, being jumped by a group of nine females. The group was between the ages of 18 and 22, driving a gray four-door sedan. One of the females was identified as a Chicago resident whom they had a physical altercation with on Feb. 1 in Chicago. At 5:10 p.m., they heard a knock on the door. After opening the door, they were jumped by the group. The family members in the home all came out to help. The group then fled on foot and entered a Toyota sedan. The family's cell phones had been taken by the group during the altercation. One phone was located by the location app in the 1000 block of Elm Street along the curb. There is still one Apple iPhone missing.
