Glenbrook South Ranked 15th Best High School in State on U.S. News 2016 List

The school also was rated the 478th best in the country for 2016.

GLENVIEW, IL—Glenbrook South High School was named one of the top 15 best high schools in the state, according to the annual U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings. The school was No. 15 on the 2016 list, which was released Monday, April 18.

How Other North Shore Schools Ranked:

Overall, the high school was 478th in the country on the magazine's 2016 list.

In the past, Glenbrook South and Northfield Township High School District 225 officials have been critical of rankings such as the U.S. News list.

"While it’s nice to be recognized for our efforts, these rankings are not the instrument we use to measure success," Karen Geddeis, District 225's communications director, told Patch in 2013.

Fourteen other Illinois high schools cracked the top 500. The No. 1 high school in the U.S. rankings is the School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas, Texas.

Nine Chicago high schools rank in the top 25 for Illinois, along with 16 suburban high schools. The No. 1 high school in the state is Northside College Prep, ranked 39th in the United States, followed closely by Walter Payton College Prep, ranked 41st in the country.

The highest ranked suburban school is Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, ranked 166th in the nation.

"The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 21,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia," states U.S. News & World Report. "Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments, their graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college."

The report includes information about curriculum, test scores and student demographics
