Stevenson Named State's Best Suburban High School on U.S. News 2016 List

The school earns that top distinction for a 2nd consecutive year, and its national rating climbs 25 spots from 191 in '15 to 166 this year.

LINCOLNSHIRE, IL—Adlai E. Stevenson High School was ranked as the best suburban high school in the state for the second consecutive year, according to the annual U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings. The school was No. 5 on the 2016 list, which was released Monday, April 18.

How Other North Shore Schools Ranked:

Overall, the high school was 166th in the country on the magazine's 2016 list. While Stevenson's state ranking was unchanged from last year, the school improved its national rating by climbing 25 spots from 191 in 2015.

Fourteen other Illinois high schools cracked the top 500. The No. 1 high school in the U.S. rankings is the School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas, Texas.

Nine Chicago high schools rank in the top 25 for Illinois, along with 16 suburban high schools. The No. 1 high school in the state is Northside College Prep, ranked 39th in the United States, followed closely by Walter Payton College Prep, ranked 41st in the country.

"The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 21,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia," states U.S. News & World Report. "Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments, their graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college."

The report includes information about curriculum, test scores and student demographics
