Glenview Artist Jan Lewis at AIR Gallery in Glencoe

Artists One-Day Holiday Sale Includes Jewelry by Glenview Artist Jan Lewis

Glenview artist Jan Lewis will be offering her handmade jewelry at a one-day sale “Objects of Desire,” Saturday, December 6, from 10 am-5 pm at the Artists-In-Residence Gallery in Glencoe. The gallery is located at 348 Tudor Court, just west of Green Bay Road. The Artists-In-Residence gallery also serves as studio space for its 13 member artists, several of whom will be participating in this gift-oriented show. One-of-a-kind jewelry, small paintings and collages, painted silk scarves, handmade cards and assorted “French Flea Market” objects will be for sale, priced for holiday gift-giving.

Jan is a life-long resident of the North Shore whose artistic career began with her grandmothers; one who taught her sewing and the other watercolor painting while on family vacations on Martha’s Vineyard Island. Jan is now a seascape painter, an award winning collage artist, and well-known for her unique jewelry. She shares her family passion for collecting and has a studio full of carefully categorized objects she incorporates into her jewelry and art pieces.

When young, Jan collected sea shells and sea glass from the beaches. Her hunting soon spread to flea markets, antique shops and garage sales as she searched for vintage items to to use in unusual ways in art. These objects would include bone buttons, thimbles, vintage brass dog tags, shoe hooks, buckles, master keys and many more one-of-a-kind finds. Jan’s jewelry is often asymmetrical while combining the old and the new with natural stones.

For Jan, jewelry making is more about love than business. “I want to share my joy of antique and vintage objects with everyone who appreciates these things from the past. I’d like everyone to be able to give something both unique and beautiful to the ones they love.” You can see more of Jan’s work at her website: ArtistJanLewis.com.
