Panhandler Punches Employee In Face, Grabs Throat: Glenview PD Blotter

The incident occurred after the employee approached the man about panhandling in the store, according to police.

Ali Mohammad, 26, of the 400 block of E. 33rd Street, Chicago, is accused of theft, and was arrested at 10:16 p.m. May 25, at West Lake Avenue and Pfingsten Road. The arrest followed an investigation into an incident in the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road. He was released and assigned a court date of June 17.

Jakub Balicki, 26, of the 15000 block of Walnut Road, Deerfield, is accused of driving under the influence, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, and was arrested at 1:32 a.m. May 26, following a traffic investigation in the 2800 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He was released and assigned a court date of June 18.

BATTERY

Halson Bowen, 36, of the 200 block of Wheeling Avenue, Wheeling, is accused of battery, and was arrested at 3:47 p.m. May 26, after an investigation at Costco, 2900 Patriot Blvd. He was released and assigned a court date of July 11.

IDENTITY THEFT

Taron Watts, 41, of the 1500 block of N. Mayfield Avenue, Chicago, is accused of identity theft, forgery, and was arrested at 11:10 a.m. May 23, while he was in custody of the Cook County Department of Corrections. The new charges came from an investigation into a burglary to motor vehicle on Dec. 19, 2023, in the 1500 block of East Lake Avenue. He was released back to the Department of Corrections.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Church Street resident reported at 1:22 p.m. May 21, someone had made unauthorized transactions on their checking account and several credit cards. Purchases totaling $40,000 were made at Lowes, CitiBank, Nordstrom, and Costco, with their name being changed on two accounts. There were also three wire transfers from their Citibank checking account. Total loss is $143,000.
  • A Longmeadow Drive resident called police at 5:34 p.m. May 21, to report someone was using their information on a Tramadol prescription as their provider. Different pharmacies had received the fraudulent prescriptions under multiple patient names. They will contact the DEA to report their registration number being used.
  • An Osage Drive resident reported at 10:08 p.m. May 21, someone had attempted to open a Chase credit card with their personal information. The application was denied and there is no financial loss.
  • A Pine Street resident called police at 1:52 p.m. May 24, to report someone had opened a student loan account at Rasmussen College in Oak Brook using their maiden name. Total loss is $1,728.16.
  • A Joanne Drive resident reported at 4:40 p.m. May 24, someone had opened up an AT&T account in their name. The total loss is $405.68.

BURGLARY FROM VEHICLE

A resident of the 3000 block of Dell Place reported that between May 22 and May 23, someone took their vehicle's registration sticker from the vehicle’s license plate, while the vehicle was parked at the residence. The person had also entered and rummaged through their vehicle and stole the registration document. Estimated loss is $135.

BATTERY

  • An employee of a business in the 2100 block of Willow Road reported at 4:56 p.m. May 23, a man had punched them in the face, grabbed them by the throat, threw them to the ground, and broke their phone, after they approached him about panhandling in the store. They were described as black, 23 to 30 years of age, between 6 foot and 6-foot-2, 200 to 225 pounds, muscular build, wearing a white t-shirt with a raccoon logo and light purple pants (possibly Northwestern University Champion joggers).
  • A Chicago resident reported at 3:14 p.m. May 24, being grabbed by the shirt and pulled while visiting their father at work in the 2000 block of Lehigh Avenue.

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

A Des Plaines resident is accused of having no driver's license, no seatbelt, no insurance, improper display of registration, and was cited at 6:10 p.m. May 23, following a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Milwaukee Avenue. A court date of June 18 was assigned.

THEFT

A Park Ridge resident reported that during the overnight hours of May 22, someone had stolen two phones belonging to them from their room at a business in the 3900 block of Glenview Road where they had been staying for three weeks. The estimated loss is $1,540.

HARASSMENT BY TELEPHONE

A Chicago resident reported at 4:48 p.m. May 23, a co-worker at a business in the 2100 block of Claire Court has been following them home from work and keeps calling them. Officers called and spoke with the co-worker, who hung up the phone and all subsequent calls went to voicemail.

UNWANTED PERSON

An employee of a business in the 1300 block of Glenview Road reported at 8:54 p.m. May 23, someone was walking around the premise that was not a member and was harassing members of their business.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

An employee in the 1200 block of 12th Street reported at 10:10 p.m. May 23, seeing two males spray-painting the fence by the office. The two males ran into the lot of a neighboring business when they saw the complainant. Officers found the graffiti, which said "SGDK" and "SGK," which police said is consistent with gang graffiti. The estimated damage is $200.

TRESPASS WARNING

An employee of a business in the 1800 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 2:14 a.m. May 24, a customer was smoking indoors and the smoke detector alarms were continuously going on. The employee told them they had to leave the property for violating the rules. They left the business willingly and were warned not to return.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

  • A California resident reported that while staying at a business in the 2600 Lehigh Avenue, at some time during the overnight hours of May 24, someone stole the catalytic converter off their rental vehicle. Total loss is $500.
  • A resident in the 4100 block of Cove Lane called police at 2:50 a.m. May 24, to report four people cut the catalytic converter off a vehicle in the parking lot of their residence and fled in a black Dodge Charger in an unknown direction. Officers observed the suspect vehicle near Central Road and Milwaukee Avenue, which fled at a high rate of speed.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee of a business in the 1900 block of Tower Drive reported at 7:03 p.m. May 24, a male and female had entered the business, concealed several items of merchandise in a purse, and left without paying. They then fled in an unknown direction. The total reported loss is $1,070.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A Skokie resident reported at 1:43 p.m. May 27, they had been involved in a verbal altercation
over a parking space while at a business in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue. They said
the other driver, a Chicago resident, told them that they would sic their dog on them. The
Chicago resident denied the comment but admitted to yelling at them.
