Thief Steals 9 Bottles Of Vodka, Heartburn Meds: Glenview PD Blotter

Between the alcohol and medications, the total loss was nearly $700, according to the store.

Almazbek Zhoroev, 24, of the 5400 block of N. East River Road, Chicago, had a warrant out of Cook County for failure to appear for a retail theft charge, and was arrested at 4:31 a.m. May 5, during a well-being check in the 9700 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Arturo Alaniz-Morales, 41, of the 2000 block of Hickory Street, Waukegan, is accused of driving while license suspended, disobeying a stop sign, speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, and was arrested at 8:39 a.m. May 6, following a traffic stop in the 3600 block of Winnetka Road. He was released and assigned a court date of June 5.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE

Jonathan Schneider, 38, 8400 block of Kedvale Avenue, Skokie, is accused of deceptive practice, and was arrested at 9:53 a.m. May 2, at the Skokie Courthouse.

HOME REPAIR FRAUD

Gregory Bynum, 59, of the 1700 block of Canterfield, West Dundee, had a warrant out of Glenview for home repair fraud, theft by deception, and was arrested April 30 by the Carpentersville Police Department.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Franklin Drive resident reported at 1:55 p.m. April 30, someone used their identity to open a T-Mobile account. T-Mobile showed an account balance of $253.24.
  • A Beaver Lane resident reported at 2:50 p.m. May 1, someone made four unauthorized e-withdrawals from their Chase Bank checking account totaling, $17,500. Chase Bank closed the account.
  • An Elm Street resident reported at 3:22 p.m. May 6, receiving two credit cards in the mail that they did not apply for, a Chase DoorDash Mastercard and a Kohls credit card.

THEFT

  • A Canterbury Lane resident called police at 2:17 p.m. April 30, to report five days earlier, pop-ups had appeared on their computer, which appeared to be Apple support. They contacted the number and the unknown male who answered told her that Russian criminals had made withdrawals to their Northern Trust bank account. They advised them to remove $15,000 from their bank account. Northern Trust denied the transaction, so they completed the withdrawal at Wells Fargo. The male then told them to turn the money over to a courier, who arrived at their residence on April 27. They gave the money to a young, thin, male in his mid-to-late 20s.
  • A Chicago resident reported at 10:39 a.m. May 2, jewelry being taken from them while at a business in the 2100 block of Pfingsten Road. Total loss is $6,000.
  • A resident in the 3100 block of Harrison Street called police at 5:59 p.m. May 4, to report a man wearing a dark winter jacket, White Sox hat, black pants, and black shoes stole a package containing clothing from the front porch, valued at $170.
  • A Greenwood Road resident reported at 4:09 p.m. May 6, receiving phone calls from a person identifying themselves as a ComEd employees, who told them they would shut off their electricity if they did not pay their outstanding balance. They sent four payments via Western Union to the person, totaling $2,022.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee of a business in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road reported on May 2 that at 3:30 p.m. April 29, a male wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, black shoes, and a black backpack entered the store and went to the medication aisle. He loaded allergy and heartburn medications into a gift bag, then went to the liquor department and put nine bottles of Tito’s Vodka in the bag before exiting the store without payment. The man left the property on foot toward Waukegan Road. The same man committed a similar theft on April 25. Total loss is $618.79.
  • An employee of a business in the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road reported that at 3:20 p.m. May 3, two males entered the store, stole several liquor bottles, and left in a gray Nissan Rogue rental vehicle. The first man was wearing a gray hat, gray sweatshirt, black pants, and white shoes. The second man was wearing all white — shoes, pants, hoodie, and hat. The estimated loss was $500.

HARASSMENT BY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

A Brush Hill Lane resident reported at 10:01 a.m. May 2, receiving threatening text messages from an Oakbrook Terrace resident, who is a former employee that recently resigned. Officers spoke with the ex-employee, who agreed to cease communication.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

A citizen called police at 12:24 p.m. May 2, to report seeing two people spray-painting the Techny Basin pump station, 1893 Westleigh Drive. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago was notified.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

  • A resident of the 2100 block of Linneman Street reported that during the overnight hours of May 3, someone entered their unlocked vehicle, parked in the driveway, and took a black NorthFace backpack containing a stethoscope. The estimated loss is $600.
  • A resident of the 2200 block of Linneman Street called police to report that during the overnight hours of May 3, someone entered their unlocked vehicle, parked in the driveway, and took their wallet containing a driver's license, and several credit cards. Estimated loss was $40.

RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE

A resident of the 2100 block of Linneman Street reported at 6:23 a.m. May 3, an unoccupied car parked in front of their home. The vehicle was running, all the windows smashed, and had heavy front-end damage. The Chicago Police Department was sent to the registered owner's address, who verified the vehicle must have been stolen overnight. The vehicle was also involved in a fleeing and eluding incident in Evanston during the overnight hours.

STOLEN VEHICLE

A resident in the 2200 block of Linneman Street called police to report that during the overnight hours of May 3, someone stole their vehicle from the driveway. The vehicle was unlocked with the key fob inside. Estimated loss was $70,000.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Residents of the 1000 block of Terrace Lane reported that at 12:15 a.m. May 4, three people exited a white Jeep Cherokee and unknown silver sedan, before entering their open overhead garage door and stealing both vehicles parked inside. They also reported several unauthorized charges to their credit cards which were left in the vehicle, at various gas stations in Chicago.

BURGLARY

A Des Plaines resident reported that between noon and 2 p.m. May 5, someone had entered their
locked locker at a business in the 3800 block of Willow Road. They said the locker was still locked, but then noticed bank cards missing from their wallet. There were three fraudulent charges totaling $6,765.05 made with his US Bank debit card at the following locations:

  • $6050.59 — Liquor Barn (287 E. Dundee Road, Wheeling)
  • $358.51 — Dollar Tree (610 Milwaukee Ave., Prospect Height)
  • $355.95 — Jewel-Osco (333 E. Euclid Ave., Mount Prospect)
