Recovery Efforts Underway in Grayslake
The EF-I tornado swept through a narrow portion of Grayslake Sunday night, damaging private properties and Grayslake Central High School.

Public works crews in Grayslake have been busy clearing streets and cleaning upΒ after a tornado that βcame with virtually no warningβ swept through the city Sunday night, city officials said Monday.
βThe storm originated in Round Lake Park without warning and proceeded very rapidly through the village,β said Grayslake Chief of Police Phil Perlini. βThe National Weather Service issued initial notification reporting a tornado when it was in the Third Lake or Gages Lake area. Fortunately, we have no reported injuries.β

The EF-1 tornado affected mainly a narrow band of land of about two to three blocks running from west to east in the following areas: West Trail subdivision between Patricia Court and Mitchell Drive; Woodland, Behm and MItchell near Grayslake Central High School; the Estates of Eastlake subdivision; and portions of College Trail between Brae Loch and Center.
The storm downed trees and caused damage to private properties and also left Grayslake Central High and the Grayslake Acquatic Center in need of repairs, according to a city of Grayslake press release.

Public works maintenance crews having been working to clear streets and crews from Grayslake, Hainesville and Avon Township and several private contractors have begun removing fallen trees and limbs from village road right-of-ways, according to the news release.
The village will spend the next several days removing storm damage from the right-of-way.
βFortunately, much of the town was untouched by the storm,β said Grayslake Director of Public Works Bill Heinz on Monday. βWe have multiple crews in the field as of early this morning and will continue this week until we complete the clean-up.β
The public works department will be offering a special branch pick-up service. Residents in the impacted area may place storm damaged tree limbs near the street in the right-of-way and village crews will remove them in the upcoming days.
