Dance Mob Planned For Holiday Tree Lighting In Highland Park

A "community dance mob" is set to brighten Port Clinton Square during Saturday's "Light the Night" event.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The 2021 holiday season in Highland Park kicks off in earnest this weekend with the city's annual tree lighting event.

Mayor Nancy Rotering and members of the Highland Park City Council are set to be on hand for the lighting of more than 200 trees.

The family-friendly Light the Night event runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

For the first time, the 2021 holiday tree lighting will feature a special community dance mob organized by the local nonprofit CBG Institute for Dance and Health, which has choreographed dances to "All I Want for Christmas Is You" and "Oh Chanukah."

The dances are designed for people of all ages and ability levels, and beginners are encouraged to take part.

Other scheduled events include a visit from Santa and performances from young people involved with Ballet Makkai, The Children's Theatre Company, Midwest Young Artists Conservatory Choi and Soul2Sole Dance, according to city staff.

A rehearsal for the dances is planned for 3 p.m. Thursday, and instructional videos of the dances are available online.
