HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFTS

  • A male and female shoplifter stole health and beauty items worth $969 from the CVS Pharmacy at 2000 Skokie Valley Road on April 10. Staff reported the theft on May 22.
  • Two unidentified male shoplifters stole more than $1,500 worth of health and beauty items on May 8 from the CVS Pharmacy at 2000 Skokie Valley Road, staff told police May 22.
  • Three unidentified shoplifters stole more than $1,900 worth of health and beauty products from the CVS Pharmacy at 2000 Skokie Valley Road at an unspecified time.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone burglarized an unlocked car in the 600 block of Central Street at some point prior to 9:30 p.m. on May 21. Nothing was listed as stolen at the time of the report.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Amy Pierce, 53, of the 1200 block of Cambridge Court, Highland Park, was arrested around 1:15 p.m. on May 19 at her home and charged with violation of an active order of protection, assault and resisting arrest after police got a call she had violated the terms of a court order. Police reported she also violated traffic rules while fleeing officers. She is separately charged and awaiting trial on one felony count of threatening a public official on Feb. 19 in Highland Park, as well as misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting police that were filed last year.

Felipe Martinez-Serrano, 24, of the 100 block of Drew Lane, Waukegan, was arrested around 10:45 p.m. on May 19 and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol during an investigation into a one-car traffic crash with no injuries at the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue. He was also issued citations for a license suspended for financial purposes, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver. He was separately waiting trial on a burglary charge connected to a December 2019 incident in Waukegan.

Oscar Sandoval, 50, of the 200 block of Green Bay Road, Highwood, was arrested shortly after 1:30 p.m. on May 24 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and driving without a valid driver's license following a crash in the 300 block of Western Avenue. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

Shibin Pereira, 30, of the 2200 block of Elisha Drive, Zion, was arrested around 3:15 p.m. on May 25 following a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. Police also issued him citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver and improper lane usage.
