WGN Uses Nazi Emblem in Segment about Yom Kippur

Chicago TV station WGN used poor judgment Tuesday in its art choice for a story about Yom Kippur—an image of the yellow Star of David that Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust.

It didn’t take long for viewers to spot the offensive image—one even called for someone to lose his or her job.

The station was quick to respond (30 minutes later) with an apology to viewers via social media, in addition to an official statement admitting its error. ”We failed to recognize that the image was an offensive Nazi symbol. We are extremely embarrassed and we deeply apologize to our viewers and to the Jewish community.”
