DuPage Medical Group Adds
 Infectious Disease Practice: Features 3 Experienced Physicians

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – DuPage Medical Group, the largest independent, multi-specialty physician group in the Chicago area, has acquired an established infectious disease practice. 

With offices at 908 N. Elm Street in Hinsdale, Ill., and 1801 S. Highland Ave. in Lombard, the department offers the expertise of three board certified infectious disease physicians – Drs. Nozaina Aftab, Edward Sherman and Mia Taormina. 

All three deliver care for patients with conditions that are difficult to diagnose or treat, including tuberculosis, hepatitis (excluding HEP-C), HIV/AIDS, transplant, surgical or orthopaedic infections, pneumonia, Lyme disease, West Nile virus, Epstein-Barr virus and mononucleosis, among others.

Aftab is affiliated with Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. Fluent in Urdu and Hindi, her clinical interests include bacterial infections of bones and joints, viruses, fevers of unknown origin, tumors and HIV.

She earned a medical degree from Fatima Jinnah Medical College in Pakistan and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at New York Methodist Hospital followed by a fellowship in infectious disease at State University of New York.

Sherman is affiliated with Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital and Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. His clinical interests include general infectious disease as well as chronic fatigue, HIV, orthopaedic infections and travel medicine.

After earning a medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, Sherman completed an internal medicine internship at Evanston Hospital and residency at Illinois Masonic Hospital followed by a fellowship in infectious disease at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Sherman’s residency included study of parasitology and tropical medicine in Kenya, Africa.

Taormina is affiliated with Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, and Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. Her clinical interests including bone and joint infections, diabetic wound complications, exotic infectious diseases, food borne illness, community health issues and HIV/AIDS care. She treats both adults and children.

Taormina earned a medical degree from Michigan State University and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as a fellowship in infectious disease, at Botsford Hospital in Detroit.
