Coronavirus: HomerFest Canceled For 2020
The Homer Community Festival Committee unanimously decided to cancel the annual HomerFest.

HOMER GLEN, IL — The popular annual HomerFest has been canceled for 2020 due to the coronavirus. The community festival was scheduled to take place June 25-28, but it has now been canceled, Trustee Keith Gray said at the April 22 village board meeting.
Gray said nine out of 10 of the members of the Homer Community Festival Committee were able to attend the most recent committee meeting, and it was unanimously decided to cancel the fest. The village board also unanimously voted to cancel the fest.
"In the end, the safety and well-being of our guests and our residents was our only priority," Gray said.

Governor J.B. Pritzker has suggested canceling large summer events, and several towns and cities have canceled their annual festivals and events scheduled for June or July. In Lockport, the city has also canceled its annual Old Canal Days.

According to board documents, the village has paid some deposits already, for a total of $24,062.50. It is expected that the village will receive its full deposits back. There are also some sponsorship funds that will need to be returned to the businesses.
"We know this decision will be a disappointment, but we could not risk the health of our community," Gray said. "We look forward to bringing an amazing event in 2021."
