Lockport Township High School Postpones Prom To July
Due to the coronavirus, the high school has postponed prom, which was scheduled for April 18, to July.
LOCKPORT, IL — The stay-at-home order has been extended until May 30, and Gov. J.B. Pritzker has also closed schools for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, which means various end-of-year events have been canceled or postponed due to the coronavirus. At Lockport Township High School, prom was supposed to be April 18 at the Museum of Science and Industry; however, school officials have now postponed the event until July.
LTHS' prom will be held Saturday, July 11 at the Museum of Science and Industry as long as social distancing guidelines are eased by that time.
"This is such a difficult time for everyone in our school community, but particularly the seniors," Principal of East Campus, Dr. John Greenan, told Patch. "This is their last year at LTHS and they are missing out on some great events we have at the end of the school year."

Greenan said the district has met "extensively" about all school events to determine which can be postponed.

"We were able to reschedule prom to Saturday, July 11, as long as social distancing guidelines have been eased by that time," Greenan said. "This is an important event that we want to try to provide for our students and school community. We hope, with the support of government officials and medical professionals, that we can have some of these cherished events so our seniors can end their high school career with some lasting memories."
Prom is a well-attended event at LTHS. Brian Lessner, Director of Activities, noted that for three out of the last four years, over 700 students have attended the event.
Pritzker has suggested canceling large summer events, and many towns and cities have followed this advice. In Chicago, various parades and festivals have been canceled for May and June. In Lockport itself, the city has canceled the annual Old Canal Days.
