Coroner IDs Homer Glen Hit-And-Run Victim
The 65-year-old Lockport woman was killed Friday night.
HOMER GLEN, IL — The Will County Coroner's Office identified the person who was fatally struck in a hit-and-run in Homer Glen as a 65-year-old Lockport woman.
Coroner Laurie Summers said Louise M. Vieni was pronounced dead at 6:54 p.m. Friday at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
According to the Will County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to 159th Avenue between Gougar and Cedar roads around 6 p.m. after receiving a call about an injured person in the road.

When deputies arrived, they learned that a driver was heading eastbound on 159th Avenue when they struck a dog in the road. Authorities said the driver stopped and also found an injured person in the roadway, who appeared to have been struck by a previous driver who didn’t stop.
Authorities said the driver called 911 and attempted to provide aid to the woman.

Following the collision, eastbound 159th Avenue was temporarily closed while Will County authorities conducted their accident investigation.

Vieni's death is one of several pedestrian fatalities this week in Will County.
Also on Friday, a pedestrian was fatally hit in Bolingbrook.
On March 1, a 25-year-old Romeoville man was fatally struck on I-55 near Weber Road.
On Thursday, a 50-year-old Romeoville woman was killed when she was struck near Route 53 and Alexander Circle in Romeoville, police said.
