Suspect In Custody After Home Invasion Led To Barricade Situation In Homer Glen: Mayor

HOMER GLEN, IL – A suspect is in custody after a home invasion suspect was barricaded inside a Homer Glen home on Tuesday, Mayor Christina Neitzke-Troike shared on her Facebook page.

The barricade situation started after a home invasion was reported in Darien on Tuesday afternoon, police said. Officers, who saw a fleeing car, pursued the suspect but ended the chase near Bell Road and 143rd Street in Homer Glen after losing sight of the vehicle, Darien police said.

Shortly after, police said law enforcement found the man entering a home in the 13000 block of Maverick Trail in Homer Glen. A shelter-in-place order was issued for nearby residents, the Will County Sheriff's Office said.

The victim in the home invasion was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries but was later released, police said.

The suspect's name has not been released.

On Tuesday night, Darien police reported that a multi-agency DuPage County SWAT team, a crisis negotiation team and the Will County Sheriff's Office were working to take the suspect into custody peacefully.

After several hours, they were able to do so without any problems, police said.

In a news release, Darien police said law enforcement's coordinated efforts contributed to a "safe resolution of a dangerous situation while protecting both the public and responding personnel."

Mayor Neitzke-Troike said the shelter-in-place order was lifted Tuesday night. Residents around the home had been ordered to stay inside their own homes while police were on the scene.
