Woman Shot Dead By Cops Threatened To Kill Family Member: Flossmoor PD

Flossmoor police officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. Body cam footage has been released.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — A 64-year-old Flossmoor woman who was fatally shot by police Sunday afternoon was threatening to kill a family member and came at police armed with a knife, police said Thursday in a news release.

A person called 911 to report that Madeline Miller, of the 1400 block of Joyce Drive, was armed with a knife and threatening the life of a female family member, police said.

Police who responded to the home were confronted by shouting from inside the home, according to the release. Body cam footage then shows an elderly woman with a walker answering the door, followed by a woman, now identified as Miller, wielding a large kitchen knife coming from another room of the residence.

The footage then shows officers command Miller to drop the knife. Miller continues her approach with knife in hand, with officers dropping back into the driveway before firing a total of three shots.

Miller was taken to Advocate South Suburban Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. The family member was also taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries related to a domestic disturbance that took place before police arrived, according to the release.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave pending further review by the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force.
