• McHenry County to charge new $7,500 fee to solar farm developers (shawlocal.com) — Huntley residents should know McHenry County has enacted a new $7,500 application fee on solar, wind and energy storage projects, a move that could affect future projects like the solar farm at Huntley High School. County officials say the fee, effective Aug. 1, is meant to recoup staff costs for road-use permitting, not to slow solar development. Board members debated whether broader fee reviews are also needed. 
• Golf course worker calls 911 after spotting heavy smoke from fire that damaged large house in Lakewood (lakemchenryscanner.com) — Huntley firefighters helped Crystal Lake crews battle a Thursday morning house fire in Lakewood that left a large home uninhabitable and briefly cut water service to nearby properties. No residents or firefighters were injured, but utilities were shut off and repairs are needed before the family can return. The response also involved departments from Algonquin, Cary, McHenry and others.
