Joliet Man In Stable Condition After Cops Shoot Him In Face And Chest: Police
The Joliet man allegedly pointed an assault rifle at police officers.

A Joliet man shot in the face and chest by police officers after he allegedly pointed an assault rifle at them was in stable condition at a Maywood hospital, the police chief said Wednesday.
The man faces no criminal charges in connection with the Tuesday night incident outside his Rockwood Drive home and will not be charged until he is released from Loyola University Medical Center, said Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton. Benton declined to identify the man until that time.
Two police officers were sent to the man’s home to arrest him on a charge of domestic battery Tuesday night, Benton said. The man’s wife had reportedly fled the house with her son and called the police from around the block.

After the officers arrived, the man emerged from the residence with a pair of assault rifles, Benton said. He pointed one of the rifles at an officer and turned to point at the other officer, Benton said. The officers, both nine-year veterans, then opened fire.
After the man was handcuffed and being treated by paramedics, he was found to be in possession of at least two handguns, Benton said.
