First Midwest Bank Robbery Results In Joliet Man's Arrest

Joliet Police said there was a cash reward available in this case.

JOLIET, IL — Around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Joliet's Police Department announced on Facebook that the First Midwest Bank robbery suspect has been identified and captured. Joliet Patch has determined that the criminal defendant is 59-year-old Joliet resident Tom Tynan, who lives in the 2600 block of Par Four Lane.

Will County Jail records indicate the bank robbery suspect stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 265 pounds. Tynan was admitted into custody at 6:04 p.m. on one charge from the Joliet Police Department: financial institution robbery, jail records show.

The First Midwest Bank in the 1400 block of Joliet's West Jefferson Street was robbed around 9:30 a.m. by a stocky white man "who appears to be in his sixties," Joliet Police announced on Thursday afternoon.

Nobody was injured during the crime and the robber got away before squad cars arrived.

Joliet Police had warned people that the man "should be considered armed and dangerous and the FBI is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to his capture."

The last bank robbery at First Midwest occurred in February when Bruce Carter reached over the counter and grabbed a wad of cash out of a drawer. Later that morning, Carter was shot and killed by Joliet Police Detective Aaron Bandy. Carter had tried to attack the detective with a knife, at Carter's family's house on South Des Plaines Street, the investigation determined.
