No School Friday For Joliet District 86, eLearning For JTHS 204

The worst conditions will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, the weather service said.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet Public School District 86 announced that the buildings will be closed Friday because of all the snow that is expected to cover the area, and Joliet Township High School District 204 said it will be an eLearning day for Joliet Central and Joliet West.

Patch reported that a winter storm watch has been issued for the Chicago area as up to 8 inches of snow is possible on Friday. The National Weather Service has issued the watch starting Friday morning and ending Friday evening for Kane, DuPage, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Cook and Will counties.

The weather service said rain will change over to heavy, wet snow, with total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches possible. Winds could also be as high as 45 mph.

Joliet Public School District 86 spokeswoman Sandy Zalewski told Patch that Friday "was already scheduled for us as a full day of parent teacher conferences with no school for students. We just moved all conferences online."

With eLearning scheduled for Friday, Joliet Township High School District 204 said students and staff should not report to school, except for maintenance staff. After school events and activities are canceled.

"Student expectations include recording their attendance one time between 9:30 and 3:15 p.m.," the district said on its website.
