Joliet Shooting Victim Dies 6 Days Later: Coroner

Joliet police officers responded to two separate shooting victims last Thursday night. Now, one of them has died.

JOLIET, IL — A 42-year-old Joliet man shot multiple times last week following a fight in the 300 block of Pine Street, on the city's near west side, has died, the Will County Coroner's Office announced Wednesday. The shooting victim, Jermane Pettigrew, was pronounced dead at 1:51 a.m. Wednesday inside Amita Health Saint Joseph Medical Center, the coroner's office said.

The Joliet Police Department is still investigating the shooting. No arrests have been made so far.

Last week, Joliet Patch reported that Sept. 3 marked the third consecutive night that someone in Joliet was struck by bullets.

Joliet Fire Department paramedics from Station 5 responded to the 7:25 p.m. shooting of Pettigrew in the 300 block of Pine Street, near Western Avenue.

The man was shot outside the residence, suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and arm, according to Joliet police. The man was alert and talking to paramedics as the Joliet Fire Department rushed him to the emergency room at AMITA St. Joe's hospital.

The criminal investigation determined that Pettigrew got into an argument with another person and the two were fighting with one another, police said. During the altercation, the other person pulled out a gun and shot the 42-year-old numerous times, police indicated.
