Plainfield Sex Predator Arrested After Bank Robbery Chase

Thomas Manaras got popped in 2014 for failing to register as a convicted sexual offender.

JOLIET, IL - They caught him. On Friday afternoon, Thomas Steven Manaras Jr., a 34-year-old Plainfield man suspected of trying to rob the Chase Bank on Essington Road, the 7-Eleven at Essington and Caton Farm Roads and the Burger King fast-food joint near the Louis Joliet Mall was nabbed by the Joliet Police Department, Illinois State Police and Will County Sheriff's Police. Now, Manaras, who is classified as a sexual predator on a state of Florida law enforcement website, is getting adjusted to his new surroundings, the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Manaras arrived at the county jail in downtown Joliet by supper time Friday. The Joliet Police Department arrested him on a half dozen preliminary charges including aggravated robbery indicating he was armed with a gun, two robbery charges, driving while revoked or suspended, aggravated fleeing/causing bodily injury and theft.

Next, he will be hauled in for a weekend hearing on Saturday where a Will County judge will set his bail.

Back in 2015, Manaras pleaded guilty in Will County for failing to register with authorities within three days of his new address. Jail logs list the convicted sex offender as residing at 22952 West Judith Drive. He also landed in the Will County Jail in 2014 on charges of vehicle theft.

He is listed in a state of Florida Law Enforcement website as a registered sexual offender, who was convicted in 2007, which was during his early twenties. And that law enforcement website notes that Thomas Manaras has since moved to Plainfield, Illinois.
