Violence In St. Pat's Area, Woman's Mouth Covered: JPD

Douglas Yates, age 42, was not allowing the woman to leave his apartment when neighbors knocked at the door, Joliet police reports noted.

JOLIET, IL — Bail has been set at $50,000 for a 42-year-old Joliet man from the St. Pat's Neighborhood Area in connection with allegations that Douglas Yates violently attacked a pregnant woman and refused to let her leave his apartment unit, arrest logs show.

Joliet police were called to the scene, and they arrested Yates, who lives there, on charges of aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, aggravated battery and unlawful restraint.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events led to the Yates arrest:

  • Just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, officers were sent to a disturbance in the 100 block of Illinois Street, and the disturbance could be heard by other apartment dwellers.
  • Yates was not allowing his victim to leave his apartment when neighbors knocked on the door, according to police.
  • Authorities said Yates held her down to prevent her from answering the apartment door, prior to the arrival of the police officers.
  • Once officers entered his apartment, they determined Yates had struck the pregnant woman multiple times, plus he held her down, covering her face and mouth.
  • Yates was taken into custody without any issues and brought to the Will County Jail, where he remained Thursday, unable to post the necessary $5,000 as bail.
