At 7:36 p.m. on Jan. 19, officers went to the Walmart on Route 59 because Colnar was causing a disturbance. Colnar had entered the store, despite being trespassed on prior occasions by store employees and Joliet police.

That Friday night, Colnar began taking food from the shelves and eating the food without purchasing the items. Officers found Colnar inside Walmart and realized he appeared intoxicated and had two small boxes of wine in his coat pockets.

After officers escorted him out of the store, Colnar refused to get into the rear seat of the squad car, and he began to struggle with the officers, English noted.

During the struggle, Colnar tore an officer’s uniform and stepped on one of the boxes of wine, spraying the wine onto the officer, police reported.

After Colnar was finally placed into the squad, he tried to kick out the windows, police said. Officers re-secured Colnar in the squad and drove him to the Joliet Police Department.

"During the incident and while being processed, Colnar made numerous threats to injure and kill officers and indicated that he would continue to trespass at Walmart after being released due to the Illinois Safe-T Act," English announced.

Colnar was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Jail logs indicate that Colnar was let out of jail on the afternoon of Jan. 21.
