Cherokee School Names New Principal

Jeffrey McHugh will come to District 67 from a position in Arlington Heights.

An educator in Arlington Heights has been tabbed as the next principal of Cherokee School in Lake Forest.

The District 67 board of education approved the appointment of Jeffrey McHugh this week, according to a Wednesday news release.

McHugh, currently the teaching and learning facilitator for Arlington Heights School District 25, will leave a 14-year stint in Arlington Heights for his new role on July 1.

“I am excited and honored to join the Cherokee Elementary School family,” McHugh said. “The school’s dedication to student-centered learning, innovative programs, and high expectations are at the core of my own educational philosophy. I look forward to partnering with the dedicated staff and supportive families to continue providing outstanding learning opportunities for every student.”

In District 25, McHugh has served as a Library Media Center Director and second grade classroom teacher.

“Mr. McHugh has directed all phases of the district’s K-8 Personalized Learning Initiative,” according to the release. “Additionally, he has planned and delivered professional development to K-8 staff in the areas of literacy, inquiry, and student-driven learning..”
