PARCC Numbers Down at Lake Forest High School

Participation rate is under 95 percent - Superintendent warns against opting out.

Participation in the PARCC exam at Lake Forest High School is under 95 percent, the Daily North Shore reports - causing School District 115 Superintendent Michael Simeck to send an email to parents Monday urging them to not “opt out” of the exam.

“Beyond the legal requirement of complying with the law, PARCC does have significant potential to be a better and more meaningful test for assessing student growth,” according to Simeck. “Families will receive their student’s test results showing progress on meeting the new standards. PARCC aligns to districts’ curricula unlike the ACT. PARCC has the potential to deliver real, meaningful data to students and teachers on how well students are mastering higher-level thinking skills and standards.”

Simeck reminded parents that the school district could be punished financially if the trend of refusing the state-mandated exam continues.
