Zoning Board Won't Recommend Life Time Fitness Project

Planning and zoning commissioners in Lake Zurich have voted against recommending the Life Time Fitness project at the former Hackney's site.

LAKE ZURICH, IL - The Lake Zurich Planning & Zoning Commission has voted against recommending the proposed Life Time Fitness project at the former Hackney's property on Old Rand Road. The fitness company now says it will reassess the proposed project and has asked the Village Board to postpone its consideration of their application, according to a village memo released Wednesday.

Planning and zoning commissioners agreed that Life Time's redevelopment project was "indeed a desirable asset" for the village, but raised concerns related to the building's proposed height and mass at the Hackney's location, which has an official address of 880 North Old Rand Road.

Life Time's proposal included a vision of a three-story, 125,000 square foot health, athletic and recreation facility. Plans included an outdoor pool and deck as well.

Commissioners also considered the impact on the surrounding property values and traffic as reasons not to approve recommending approval, according to the village.
