District 128 Faces Backlash Over Handling Of Grooming Accusations Against Former Teacher
Some parents are criticizing District 128's response to alleged teacher abuse, while officials say they followed reporting rules.
LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A lawsuit accusing a former Libertyville High School teacher of grooming and sexually abusing a 15-year-old student is drawing scrutiny from parents concerned over how Community High School District 128 handled the situation.
The complaint alleges school officials did not respond adequately after warning signs about the teacher’s behavior surfaced, according to the Daily Herald. Some parents and residents say the district should have intervened sooner and provided clearer communication about the situation.
During a school board meeting Monday, several speakers said district officials knew about the claims but allowed the former teacher to keep his job and then retire with a pension, according to the article. The suit is filed on behalf of a junior with Down syndrome who, according to the lawsuit, met the teacher in the fall semester of 2024.
