Driver Bypasses Barricades To Crash Into Construction Site

A Waukegan woman maneuvered around barriers on Route 45 in a failed attempt to drive through a construction site Thursday in Libertyville.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A motorist who apparently missed the memo about recent road closures on Route 45 wound up crashing into a construction site Thursday night. The driver of a black Hyundai maneuvered around road closure barricades north of Peterson Road around 7:40 p.m., causing serious damage to the car but no injuries, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Closures began Thursday on Northbound Route 45 between Peterson and Route 137 to allow Metra to replace a retaining wall that collapsed during heavy rains early last month.

Announcing the closure, Libertyville asked drivers to use the detour of Route 83 to Route 120. The northbound lanes are expected to be closed for about a month during reconstruction.

Lynnea Williams, 21, of the 2500 block of Berkshire Court in Waukegan, was issued citations for disobeying a traffic control device, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving with an expired registration, according to Sgt. Chris Covelli.

Williams, who made it about 3,000 feet past the barriers before crashing, was alone in the car at the time of the incident, Covelli said. She is due in court Nov. 26.
