Sunday Tornado is First to Touch Down in Lake Co. in 13 Years
The EF-1 twister caused damage to Grayslake Central High School and private properties throughout the village.

The EF-1 twister that ripped through Grayslake and area towns Sunday was the first tornado to touch down in Lake County in 13 years, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado touched down in Round Lake at 8:35 p.m. and then moved to the center of Grayslake at 8:42 p.m. before heading to the eastern part of the village by 8:45 p.m. The tornado had a path lengthy of 7.5 miles and estimated width of 300 yards, with its widest width in Grayslake. The tornado terminated in Wildwood.

Wind speed was pegged at 90 to 100 miles an hour.
The last tornado to touch down in Lake County was on April 18 2002 when a brief EF-0 occurred, according to the National Weather Service
