Arboretum Car Fire Body Identified As Woodridge Woman: Coroner

Authorities have identified a woman found dead in a burning car at Morton Arboretum as Elisabeth Hornich-Waterloo, 47, of Woodridge.

LISLE, IL — Five days after police discovered a body in a burning car at Morton Arboretum, the coroner's office has released the name of the victim. According to a statement on the DuPage County Coroner's website, the body was identified as that of Elisabeth Hornich-Waterloo, 47, of Woodridge. Police are still working to unravel the circumstances that led up to Hornich-Waterloo's car being found in flames in a remote parking lot at the arboretum.

On Monday, June 21, Lisle Police responded to a report of a car fire in the 4100 block of Route 53 in Lisle. When they arrived on the scene, they found human remains inside the vehicle. An autopsy was conducted Wednesday and the coroner ruled the preliminary cause of Hornich-Waterloo's death to be carbon monoxide poisoning.

At press time, Hornich-Waterloo's final cause and manner of death are still being investigated, according to the coroner's statement.
