ILLINOIS — Severe thunderstorms are expected Friday as damaging winds and rain-wrapped tornadoes are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
Most of the Chicago area is under a slight risk for severe weather, with areas to the west under an enhanced risk. In northwest Illinois, near the Iowa-Illinois border, the severe weather threat is moderate, according to the weather service.
The weather service said the severe weather threat is for 3 to 11 p.m. on Friday. Friday will be "unseasonably" warm, with a high of 68 degrees.
AccuWeather is calling for "significant risk of severe thunderstorms at night" Friday.

There is a higher threat for severe weather for areas near and west of Interstate 39, according to the weather service.
Storms will be very fast-moving, and the weather service advised staying tuned to forecasts and ensuring you have multiple ways to get warnings.
After Friday's storms, strong winds will develop late Friday into Saturday. According to the weather service, the winds could down tree limbs and cause power outages.
