Latest New Lenox Coronavirus Updates

NEW LENOX, IL — The new coronavirus outbreak in Illinois and across the country is having vast impacts in New Lenox, including the closure of several local businesses, the library, park district and schools.

As of Friday, the number of cases in Illinois is 3,026 and 34 people have died from the coronavirus. According to the Will County Department of Health, there are 110 confirmed cases in the county, and four county residents have died. Of those cases, 60 are female and 50 are male.

Governor JB Pritzker has also issued a stay-at-home order in effect until at least April 7. With this order, only essential businesses like grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations and restaurants offering carry-out services can remain open.

SCHOOLS

Schools across Illinois, and in New Lenox, will be closed until at least April 8, per Pritzker's stay-at-home order. MORE.

BUSINESSES

The village of New Lenox has approved a local business loan program to help those businesses which were forced to close or adjust operations due to the coronavirus. MORE.

A Mariano's employee at the Frankfort location has tested positive for the coronavirus. MORE.

HOSPITALS

Silver Cross Hospital is accepting supply donations of N95 and surgical procedure masks, Nitrile procedure gloves, hand sanitizer, grocery, gas or restaurant gift cards for employees, and bleach wipes. MORE.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

The Diocese of Joliet has suspended all normal religious services, which includes celebrations for Easter Week. The services are canceled until further notice. The Islamic Foundation of the Southwest Suburbs has also suspended its Friday services. MORE.

The New Lenox Library is closed until further notice. Patrons should keep their checked-out materials at home until the library reopens.

All New Lenox Community Park District programs have been canceled and all facilities are closed until at least April 7.
