The New Lenox Police Department posted several photos of the vandalism on its Facebook page to alert the community to what had happened.

On Monday afternoon, Deputy Chief of Police Lou Alessandrini said that tips from the community as well as evidence found at the crime scene led New Lenox Police to Carter, who was arrested at his home in New Lenox and gave a full confession to committing the crime, Alessandrini said.

New Lenox police suspect the vandalism spree occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday. "He said he had just gotten off the train coming from Chicago, he claims he was intoxicated at the time," Alessandrini explained. "He used spray cans and we recovered some at the scene."

The police also determined the motive for Carter's extensive vandalism spree, they told Patch.

"At his residence, he did express he's upset about the train station being moved," Alessandrini said.

Carter has been taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and he will go before a judge on Tuesday for his bail hearing.

"A good portion of the graffiti has been removed by our Public Works Department, especially the vulgarity," Alessandrini said. "All indications are that he did it himself."
