2 Glenbrook North School Shooting Threats Discovered In 2 Days

About 1,000 students were allowed to stay home Thursday after the first threat was found.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Students at Glenbrook North High School discovered two threats of school shootings in two days this week, resulting in about half of the school's roughly 2,000 students staying home Thursday, Pioneer Press reported. District administrators said students were were given excused absences if their parents called in, and about 10 percent of students were excused from classes Friday. The threats were found just over a week after the arrest of a boy on a felony charge in connection with a shooting threat at Glenbrook South High School.

Glenbrook North Principal John Finan announced the first threat was found at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, according to the Northbrook Star, when the phrase, "Shooting 10 03" was found written on a desk in a classroom. At 9:30 a.m. the following day, an image of a gun and the message, "Stay out of school 10 4" was found carved into a seat of a desk.

Finan said separate searches of the school were conducted on Thursday morning and evening, and all students and visitors had their property inspected as they entered the building on Thursday and Friday, according to the Star. In an unrelated incident, Finan said in an email to the school community, a fire alarm caused by an electrical malfunction caused an evacuation of the school around 8 a.m. Thursday morning.
